Betty J. Cummings, age 96, of Leesburg, passed away at home Monday evening March 10, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Johnson, Vermont on April 10, 1928, the daughter of the late Levi and Mattie (Chapman) Donney. Betty was a graduate of Burlington High School in Vermont, and she graduated from nursing school in 1951, which is now associated with the University of Vermont in Burlington. She was a member of the Leesburg Friends Church and a member of the Leesburg American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 568. Betty was a registered nurse and she and her late husband, Jim, owned and operated Leesburg Hardware store for many years. Betty had a passion for the outdoors, and she spent many hours hiking through the breathtaking landscapes of Vermont and Southern Ohio. Whether under the canopy of green in summer or the stark bareness of winter, the woods were her sanctuary, her place of peace.
