Lowell Anthony Van Den Berg, 90, a beloved member of the Pricetown community, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Otterbein SeniorLife facility in Batavia, Ohio. Lowell was born on Nov. 11, 1934, in Saint Lawrence South Dakota, the son of the late Herman and Lena (Ligtenberg) Van Den Berg. Lowell's life epitomized a life of service. After serving the United States in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, he earned his master's degree in civil engineering from Michigan University. He then began a 28-year career with the U.S. Public Health Service and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he focused on improving the quality of drinking water. Upon his retirement in 1989, he began his second career helping countless people achieve their goal of a diploma through Southern State Community College's G.E.D. program for 29 years.
